Young delicate green tea leaves harvested only a few days a year in early spring
Caffeine Level: MediumItem # 0035
WHAT IT IS This tea consists of the youngest tea leaves picked in early spring, only a few days a year. Each leaf is carefully picked by hand, dried and coiled into a unique curled shape, for ease of storage and transportation. It is so delicate and tender that it takes some 15,000 tea shoots to produce just one kilogram of this tea.
FLAVOR NOTES Produced from the finest young tea shoots, Pi Lo Chun is characterized by a fresh, floral, slightly sweet taste. Because these tea bushes are planted near peach, plum or apricot trees, they also absorb the fragrance of their blossoms. This fragrance is locked in when the leaves are slightly pan-roasted.
BACKGROUND Pi Lo Chun (sometimes written as Biluochun) green tea is one of the most highly regarded teas among Chinese tea experts. It ranked first among Chinese green teas in Cha Shuo, a 19th Century tea encyclopedia.
